WELCOME

Photography has been a big part of my world since I was given a Kodak Box Brownie around the age of 8 or 9.  As I grew, I progressed through small Kodak cameras, to rangefinder Voigtlander and Minoltas, to Nikon film SLRs. The expense of film limited my output during the 20th century, but the advent of digital photography around 2000, prompted a revival of my interest and enthusiasm.

I enjoy capturing what I see around me, and am constantly, subconsciously, seeing my surroundings as photo opportunities, but don’t go out of my way to artificially create images. I’m not a portrait photographer, a flower photographer, an animal photographer, a wedding photographer, a landscape photographer, or an architectural photographer, but I have done all of those when the situations arose, and continue to do so. Abstracts don’t particularly interest me, but the patterns of nature and some man-made geometric forms do.

The historical photos in the first section are from my inherited family archive, and as far as I am aware, all photos were taken by (or, in a few cases, legitimately owned by) one of my ancestors.

All the images in “My Photos” are my own, taken on a variety of cameras, mostly digital SLRs. Regrettably, some of the earlier ones do not have the same quality as later images, but they represent that part of my journey, so have been included. With a very few exceptions, all were taken in the past 20 years. I have tried to select the best or most interesting to show, but regrettably sometimes the full stories (especially on Travel pages) cannot be displayed.

The menu above will link to the two main categories, and thence to sub-category galleries. Some categories will have images from a number of years, but others will have additional galleries for specific years, as I have accumulated a greater number of images more recently. Once finished with a gallery, you can navigate back up the “tree” by clicking on the step in the sequence written above the first image in each gallery. Alternatively, you can select the Primary Category from the menu again, and work down to the desired next gallery.

Some galleries contain a considerable number of thumbnail images, so please have patience while they load. Clicking on images will expand them to view at a larger size.  Using the controls at top left of the screen will either revert to previous view, enter full screen mode, of start a slideshow. Most controls are intuitive so you shouldn’t have any trouble with advancing or viewing images.

Caption/image titles appear above images. The numbers merely refer to the image file numbers and have no other relevance. If there’s particular photos you’d like to print, for personal (not commercial) use, email me at linton@iinet.net.au and I’ll send you print-quality files.

I hope you will enjoy coming on my journey with me. The subject matter reflects my interests of course, so feel free to bypass anything that doesn’t interest you.

John Linton
